Mike Hyam is involved in various fields, from interior design to fine art, to designing and hand blowing glass objects. After stints in the civil engineering and life insurance industries he embarked on a career in Interior Design. After working for numerous companies over 10 years he started his own studio specialising in Corporate and Retail Interiors. This studio undertook the design of head offices for Microsoft, and GoldFields, Offices for Singapore Airlines, Singapore Embassy, Dow Chemicals and Carlton Paper, and retail stores for Benetton and United Butcheries. In 2004 Mike decided to take time out and studied full time obtaining a Fine Art degree at Tshwane University of Technology. During his fourth year he attended a semester course in Glass design at the Kalmar University in Sweden. Since then he has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, entered a number of art competitions while lecturing part time in fine art at Tshwane University of Technology and in Interior Design at Design Center. In addition Mike designs functional and decorative glass pieces which he hand blows, undertakes sculptural and installation art works, and does freelance interior design work.
